This seems to happen a lot:

mistaking someone capable of making others feel stupid

for themselves being smart.

Another common issue is mistaking someone that supplies seemingly stupid comments

for someone that is stupid.

Or, one more, someone that makes you fear the road ahead

for someone that knows the way.

Sitting around in the afternoon, face sweating, thinking:

you never fucking know. Not now, not ever.

Not after one beer or six. Not lodged in a compelling novel or amidst age-old scripture.

Not running full speed in the rain. Not naked in the lake at night.

You never know. Ever. Never.
