run while you can

For the words.

Satisfied customer. One-room. Icheon, South Korea. Spring 2011.

선생님? You learn so fast:
the dress, the gestures,
that some girls squeak,
boys too. And this: the meek
shall inherit your wisdom,
which endlessly screeches on
and on about nothing: songbirds.

(In Jailbird, a novice learns
a language simply by listening
and imitating chirps, squawks.
Words are just sounds;
our mouths, just beaks).

Students pipe up, pipits;
others auk, auk, awkwardly.
The patient ones, silent,
sparrowing their voices.
Blue jays receive no reply.
Most calls go without echo,
for flying is unanswerable.
